This study assesses the economic impact of international students studying in Canada in 2014. The current study updates a similar study prepared for Global Affairs Canada in 2012, with more recent data and an improved estimation approach. It is estimated that spending associated with international students studying in Canada in 2014 amounted to $11.4 billion, contributed $9.3 billion to Canada’s GDP and helped sustain 123,000 jobs. By way of comparison, this $11.4 billion in education service exports was greater than Canada’s exports of wheat, softwood lumber or financial services and roughly equal to exports of automotive parts.
